2021 El Lasso Malbec (Wine Club Only)
Blend: 81% Malbec and 19% Merlot
Vineyard: Malbec – Tapteil Vineyard in the Red Mountain AVA, Merlot - El Mochuelo Estate Vineyard in the Lake Chelan AVA.
Harvested: Malbec - 09/16/21 (Brix – 26.4; pH – 3.71), Merlot – 10/05/21 (Brix – 27.5, pH – 3.76)
Bottled: 08/16/23
Alcohol: 14.5%
pH: 3.85%
Fermented in open tank fermenters and then then aged for 21-month in 80% new French Oak barrels (20% once-used French oak). Aromatics: Smells of pretty boysenberry, dark fruit, and earth.
Aromatics: Lovely dark Bing cherry, boysenberry, and leather
Palate: Starts with cherry compote and blackberry, followed by subtle integrated oak and bright acid, and finishes with firm, but integrated tannins. A lovely wine. Along with our Petite Verdot and Estate Merlot, one of our favorites of the vintage.
Color: Dark red with violet hues on the rim
Food Pairings: Venison with cherry sauce, wild mushroom pappardelle, and/or wild game sausages.
When to drink: Wonderful now if decanted for an hour. Should improve through 2026 and hold in your cellar for 8 to 10 years.
